- Thérèse de l'Enfant-Jésus et de la Sainte-Face
- (1873-1897) (Saint Thérèse of Lisieux)saintBorn Thérèse Martin in Alençon, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, as she would be known, entered the Carmelite convent at Lisieux in 1888, following her two sisters, and died there of tuberculosis after nine years of an apparently ordinary religious life. Her autobiography (Histoire d'une âme, 1897), however, which was edited at the request of her superiors, caused a great interest in the "little way" of humility and abandonment to God that brought her to sainthood. Thérèse was canonized in 1925; a pilgrimage takes place on october 1 to her tomb at the basilica of Lisieux.
